The son of rap mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs has been heavily critisized for accepting a football scholarship from UCLA

P.Diddy and justin

The son of rap mogul  Sean "Diddy" Combs has been heavily critisized for accepting a football scholarship from UCLA that critics say should go to a more needy student.
Justin Dior Combs  whose father topped  Forbes list of hip hop's wealthiest this year with a net worth estimated at $550 million will attend the University of California, Los Angeles to study business finance and play football on a schorlarship  that will provide $54,000 a year toward his education.
That has not stopped some critics from saying justin shouldn't have accepted it because he comes from a wealthy home and the schorlarship should be given to a more more needy student . Justin Combs, in response to a CNN story about his scholarship, took to Twitter on Tuesday to say that he earned the scholarship. "Regardless what the circumstances are, I put that work in!!!! PERIOD," he wrote. "Regardless of what you do in life every1 is gonna have their own opinion. Stay focused, keep that tunnel vision & never 4get why u started.," Combs, who played in nationwide high school all-star game in Arizona in January, said in a follow-up post.

UCLA said in a statement that unlike need-based scholarships for academics, the school's sports scholarships are awarded strictly on the basis of athletic ability. "Athletic scholarships, such as those awarded to football or basketball players, do not rely on state funds," UCLA said. "Instead, these scholarships are entirely funded through UCLA Athletics ticket sales, corporate partnerships, media contracts and private donations from supporters." UCLA hands out about 285 full athletic scholarships each year.
Justin graduated from New Rochelle Iona Prep in New York with a 3.75 GPA, and got a free ride to UCLA on a $54,000 football scholarship. He also got scholarship offers from Illinois, Virginia and Wyoming, but chose the prestigious University of California. “Playing Division I football was a lifelong dream of mine, and through hard work I was able to achieve it,” he said

i would say in my opinion, that if the boy worked for it, he should accept it.... why the buzz...?

Swimming...

I want to go for swimming this weekend, as i have nothing else to this weekend...
but i really want to learn to go to the deeper ends of the pool, as i only know how to move around alot in the safe regions... but swimming is really fantastic for me... it clears my head and helps me focus on things..
why not try going out once a week, over the weekend, saturdays are good, but i prefer fridays, because i may eventually end up being the only one at the pool...
it can be quite frustrating when there are so many people inside the water and everyone is trying to get a space, i imagine everyone like shrimps inside a boiling pot trying to escape for their life... it is quite funny as well, but it pissess me off big time-- forgive me oo! for being stingy and all, but i should be able to enjoy what i am paying for..
i actually wouldn't mind a hot fine-as* man that would take up the challenge to teach me the other basics of swimming that i do not know about (smiling mischievously)

but i may eventually go swimming ...tmao!
kisses

devoping news on Unilag Students Protest

There has  been a clash between the students of the University of Lagos and policemen at the University gate.
The clash started as some policemen tried to prevent the students from heading to the streets to register their anger at the renaming of the institution.
The policemen massed at the gate to scare the students and later fired teargas to forcefully disperse the students.
Meanwhile, the University is to be locked down today following the decision of a section of the students to continue with street protests over the renaming of the institution after the late businessman cum politician, Moshood Abiola.
The university’s Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Olukayode Amund said the authorities had allowed students to remain on campus after the initial directive to shut down the university believing that students would halt their protests to forestall a breakdown of law and order.
“The move to enforce the closure becomes necessary as a section of the students are marching outside the campus to protest,” Prof Amund said, adding that the directive would be enforced today.
Already, the management of one of the female hostels, called Honours Hostel, has already cut power supply and told students to pack their bags and leave.
Today’s protest is the third protest carried out by the Unilag students over the renaming of the institution as Moshood Abiola University.

Goodbye dollar as China, Japan swap currency

China and Japan started direct currency trading on Friday as Beijing marked another stage on its journey to foster the yuan’s use internationally in line with its growing economic clout.
Market participants can now swap Japanese yen for Chinese yuan without having to use the US dollar as an intermediary currency, making foreign trade settlement more convenient and cutting transaction costs.
The move comes as China, the world’s second-largest economy just ahead of Japan, gradually moves to make the yuan freely convertible with an eye towards rivalling the mighty dollar, analysts said.
China maintains a tight grip on its currency, which is not convertible on the capital account, over fears that speculative flows could hurt its economy. That policy has long fostered trade tensions with the United States.

Security agents only allowed pedestrians on the major link road.

Nicki Minaj Speaks: "My dancers had nothing to do w/this tragedy”

culled from flytimetv.com

Which tragedy is she referring to?

Well it is the tragedy surrounding the death of a fan who attended her Tokyo concert and was found strangled to death in a hotel room.

How it concerns Nicki?

Well asides from the fact that the 21-year-old Nicola Furlong, who was murdered after the show, was a fan of Nicki’s…her backup dancer James Blackston and another musician, Larry Perry were rumoured to be the culprits.

The rapper took to twitter to send her condolences to the bereaved family and to also clarify that her crew member was in no way involved in the ghastly act.
“Saddened to learn one of my precious fans was found tragically murdered in Japan. My love & prayers are with the family of Nicola Furlong.” After this, she set the record straight. "My dancers had nothing to do w/this tragedy. No one in my entourage was questioned or arrested. They all flew home from Japan," she wrote.

Rubbish! Tinubu, Fayemi, others reject renaming of UNILAG after MKO

Bola-Tinubu
Former Lagos State Governor Bola Tinubu, Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi; and other southwest top political players have kicked against the renaming of University of Lagos (UNILAG) after the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, Chief MKO Abiola, thus asking the Federal Government to rescind its decision.

VERY INSPIRING! The Amazing Story Of Mr. Dallas

"You can choose to get bitter or you can choose to get better... I choose to get better."
–Dallas Wiens

While painting a church in 2008, Dallas’ head came into contact with a high-tension electrical line. He was immediately airlifted to Parkland Hospital, received in emergency, and admitted to the Burn Critical Care Unit. At that point, the doctors told the Wiens family that Dallas would not survive. Through his faith and tenacity, Dallas set out to prove them wrong.

As a result of the accident, Dallas was left without any facial features. The electrical line completely burned away his visage and left him with gaping wounds on his body and spinal cord injuries at the C-3, C-4, and C-5 vertebrae. After dozens of surgeries, the surgeons had reconstructed Dallas’ body to the point that they felt comfortable bringing him out of the medically induced coma that he had been in for three months.

Shooting and teargas at UNILAG gate (Photos)

Police men stormed University of Lagos gate some minutes ago and began shooting and throwing tear gas around. They've locked the institution's two main gates causing serious traffic around the area. Students were supposed to continue their protest today after suspending it yesterday out of respect for their VC who was buried yesterday.

As the controversy over the renaming of the University of Lagos continues, Nigerians through their representatives in both chambers of the National Assembly will take the final decision on the fate of the higher institution.

The senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Gbenga Ashafa, said this in Lagos yesterday at a news conference to mark his one year in the Senate.

Ashafa said the late Abiola deserved the highest honour in the land because of his contributions to democracy.

He said: “Chief M. K. O. Abiola deserves all the honour; in fact, not only one institution should have been named after him, many monuments should have been dedicated to his memory. The Federal Government’s gesture is rather late, it should have come long before now.
